Fuse

Fuse magazineFuse magazine is a publication written by Ithaca College students for prospective students to the college. As web editor, I edited the staff’s online stories and uploaded content to the site, in addition to writing my own features and profiles for the print magazine and website. As a Fuse staff member, I was also responsible for interviewing students and alumni for the college’s branding and marketing campaign.

Here are a few examples of my own work.

A Voice That Travels | Spring 2013 issue     As a prospective student, Skott Freedman knew Ithaca College was the place for him within an hour of visiting the campus with his mother. He hadn’t even visited any other college or university before seeing IC.

Homeward Bound | Spring 2013 issue     When Luben Daniel ’12 left the U.S. Virgin Islands to study music at Ithaca College, he already had the perfect future job in mind: he wanted to return home to teach music.

From the Ground Up | Spring 2013 issue     For athletic training major Chris Toone ’13, his entire worldview changed in 2010 when he studied abroad and visited poverty stricken Senase, a small village in Ghana.

Hitting the High Notes | Fall 2012 issue    It’s hard for any student going away to college for the first time, but it’s especially difficult to create that “home away from home” atmosphere when your home is more than 6,000 miles away. Fuse Cover

Minding the Gap | Fall 2012 issue    On my first day across the pond, I picked up a map of the Underground—the Tube, as Londoners call it—and set off to explore the city.

Exploring the Options | Fall 2012 issue    Music was always a big part of Mike Severo’s life. He loved playing the drums. But when it came time to go to college, he wanted to pursue something that he felt would offer a little more stability for the future. The big question was what to study.

Local Connections | August 2, 2012    As soon as IC students finish their last exams on the South Hill, most pack up and leave for their summer vacations, jobs, or internships back home with astonishing speed. But not everyone heads home for the three-month break. If some upperclassmen could pass along one piece of advice, it’s this: spend at least one summer in Ithaca.

Top 5 Things to Expect at Orientation | June 21, 2012    If you’re coming to Ithaca College next fall, you’ve probably marked a few days on your calendar for summer orientation. But what can you expect from the program? We checked in with orientation leader (and Fuse writer!) Conor Harrington ’13, who gave us the inside scoop on plans for the summer.

Growing Season | June 15, 2012    What was once an unkempt, patchy piece of grass outside of Williams Hall is now a fully sustainable permaculture garden — full of fresh herbs, colorful plants, and leafy vegetables.

Jose Antonio Vargas Encourages Students to be the Storytellers | December 9, 2011    In what he calls the “golden age of storytelling,” journalist and undocumented immigrant Jose Antonio Vargas told an incredible one while discussing immigration myths at Ithaca College on Dec. 5.
